Free State Stars have returned to work without their star name from the first half of the season and a growing injury list.

Striker Thokozani Sekotlong was a revelation for the struggling side in the first six months of the campaign, but suffered a knee injury in their final game of 2016 – a 1-0 home win over Cape Town City – and has not yet recovered.

Stars have offered no time-frame on his return but his rehabilitation will be a priority for coach Giovanni Solinas.

The Italian already has to do without the services of inspirational skipper Paulus Masehe, Tholang Lwana, Sinethemba Jantjie and Chris Mafoumbi, who are all on the long-term injury-list.

The latter, a Congolese international goalkeeper, was injured in pre-season and has yet to feature for the side this campaign.

Adding to Solinas frustration was an injury to midfielder Charles Kampi in their first session back from the festive season break that needs to be assessed by the club’s medical staff over the coming days.

Stars won three of their last five games of the year to move out of the relegation zone and next face Kaizer Chiefs on February 7 after the resumption of the league.
