Platinum Stars thrashed Golden Arrows 3-0 in an Absa Premiership game at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg on Tuesday night.

The victory took Dikwena to eight spot on the league standings, while Abafana Bes'thende remain sixth on the table.

The home side made their intentions clear when Gerald Phiri Jr's well-taken shot narrowly missed the target just a minute into the game.

But Dikwena's early pressure paid off 10 minutes later when Tintswalo Tshabalala scored with his left foot to make it 1-0 to Stars with Bongi Ntuli grabbing an assist.

Malawi international Phiri Jr tried to double Stars' lead in the 17th minute, but this time Arrows goalkeeper Nkosingiphile Gumede pulled off a decent save.

Five minutes later, Arrows launched a rare attack with Nkosinathi Mthiyane finding Lerato Lamola, who fired over the Stars goal-posts.

Phiri, who was looking lively for Stars, set-up Vuyo Mere in the 43rd minute and the Dikwena captain forced Gumede into a great save as Stars continued to dominate.

Nevertheless, Abafana Bes'thende were able to contain Dikwena until the match referee blew the halftime whistle and Stars were leading 1-0 at the interval.

Arrows were the better side in the opening stages of the second half with Nkosinathi Mthiyane and Lerato Lamola seeing their efforts missing the target.

Clinton Larsen, the Arrows coach, decided to pull out ineffective Lamola for Sibusiso Sibeko in the 61st minute as the visitors looked to level matters.

Stars though nearly doubled their lead six minutes later, but Arrows veteran Musa Bilankulu did brilliantly to block Dikwena forward Ntuli's attempt.

It was Dikwena who did most of attacking in the dying minutes of the game. Benson Shilongo saw his effort pushed was by Gumede in the 82nd minute.

Ntuli was the man who made it 2-0 to Stars in the 89th minute when he scored with his left foot, beating Arrows keeper Gumede hands down.

Second-half substitute Henrico Botes also put his name on the scoresheet by hitting the back of the net a minute later as Stars emerged 3-0 winners.
