SuperSport come from behind to win

A goal from Innocent Mkhabela and an own goal from Bokang Thlone saw SuperSport United come from a goal behind to beat Free State Stars 2-1 in an Absa Premiership match at the Charles Mpolei Stadium on Wednesday night.

It was a tentative start to the game by Stars who sat back in defence an invited SuperSport to attack.

The away team, however, struggled in the final third of the field early on and were unable to create any decent goal scoring chances.

Instead, the opening goal came at the other end of the park in the 18th minute when Camaldine Abraw headed home a corner-kick to give Stars the lead, 1-0.

SuperSport, though, were not to be outdone and drew level ten minutes later thanks to an expert finish from Innocent Mkhabela, 1-1.

The away side nearly took the lead on the half hour mark when Thuso Phala saw a 24-yard free-kick superbly saved by Tshepo Motsoeneng, but the goalkeeper parried the ball into the path of Thato Mokeke. Luckily for Stars he fired wide from close range.

SuperSport also had the last say of the half when Morne Nel fired a long range effort inches wide of the post.

The half ended all-square at 1-1.

The start of the second half saw SuperSport continue to dominate matters and only a good save from Motsoeneng a minute after the restart kept his side in the game as he denied Dino Ndlovu from the edge of the box.

In the 50th minute only the crossbar saved Stars when Angelo Kerspuy struck the woodwork with a shot.

Stars first decent attempt of the second half came on the hour mark when Abraw fired wide of the right-hand post form distance.

Ten minutes later Super Sport did take the lead when they pressurised Bokang Thlone to head the ball into his one net, 2-1.

United defended well after that to hold on for the win while the loss for Stars sees them remain second from bottom on the league table.
