Kadi late goal seals win for Wits

A goal in the dying moments of the match by Calvin Kadi was enough to secure a 1-0 win for Bidvest Wits away at Bloemfontein Celtic in their final Absa Premiership match of the season.

Win or lose, Bidvest Wits would still end the season in third place. The game looked to be heading for a draw until Asive Langwe’s free kick found Kadi who headed in the crucial goal.

With one eye on next weekend’s Nedbank Cup final, Gavin Hunt made several changes to his Bidvest Wits starting team. The likes of Dennis Onyango, Benjani Mwaruwari, Robin Ngalande and Tinashe Nengomasha all got a rare start.

Getting a rare start for Bidvest Wits, Benjani Mwaruwari got a snap shot in at goal in the 6th minute but it was not strong enough to trouble Patrick Tignyemb.

Gavin Hunt was forced into an early substitution when Nengomasha took a knock and could not continue, so he was replaced with Asive Langwe after just 18 minutes.

Lerato Lamola came the closest to opening the scoring in the 34th minute when his header cannoned of the upright following a cross by Lerato Manzine.

On the other end Benjani Mwaruwari put his header wide of goal in the 41sr following some good work by the cross provider Siyabonga Nhlapo.

In the first ten minutes of the second half Bidvest Wits began to build pressure on the hosts, but just as they looked like making it count, they lost ball possession and it came to nothing.

Then in the 59th minute The Clever Boys went close as Tebogo Moerane found Nhlapo with a pass and the midfielder slammed in shot, which Tignyemb managed to save.

A minute later and Bidvest Wits had to make another forced change when ‘keeper Onyango could not carry on and first choice Moeneeb Josephs replaced him.

Mogogi Gabonamong missed the target with a header following a Lyle Lakay corner inside the final ten minutes. On the other end Langwe and Calvin Kadi combined really well and Kadi was unlucky not to see the end product reach the back of the net.

Then on the 90th minute Calvin Kadi did make sure when he pounced to net the winning goal with his head.
