Chiefs extend lead

A single goal from Bernard Parker handed Kaizer Chiefs their 12th Absa Premiership win of the season when they beat Chippa United 1-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

The win sees Chiefs extend their lead at the top of the PSL table to 14 points ahead of second placed Bidvest Wits who play on Sunday.

The opening half saw Chiefs with the better of the chances, but Chippa were a constant threat on the counter attack.

The Amakhosi created their first clear cut chance in the 15th minute when Bernard Parker played Kingstong Nkhatha through on goal, but the striker shot straight at the keeper in a one-on-one.

Five minutes later Parker created another scoring chance for his Amakosi teammates when Erick Mathoho met a left-sided free-kick with a strong header, but his six-yard effort struck the frame of the goal.

Chippa showed how dangerous they could be on the counter in the 29th minute when George Akpabio made his way into the box surrounded by three defenders, but Brilliant Khuzwayo was quickly off his goalline to deny him.

In the 32nd minute Chiefs lost their midfield hardman in Willard Katsande – he left the field injured and was replaced by Ivan Bukenya.

Chiefs controlled the rest of the first half, but failed to find the back of the net as the half ended 0-0.

Ten minutes into the second half the Amakhosi found the back of the net when Parker was put into space inside the box by Mandla Masango and the striker made no mistake with just the keeper to beat, 1-0.

Chiefs dominated the possession stakes thereafter, but couldn’t find a second goal as the Amakhosi picked up another three points in the league.
