Sundowns into Nedbank Cup semis

Goals from Teko Modise and Themba Zwane secured a 2-0 win for Mamelodi Sundowns over Mpumalanga Black Aces and their place in the Nedbank Cup semifinals.

The midfield duo were on the end of two superb second-half goals at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Sunday to secure a deserved win for the Brazilians in what was a repeat of the 2008 final.

Sundowns dominated the early exchanges with Billiat squandering a chance to find the opener with six minutes on the clock.

A long ball from Hlompho Kekana let the Zimbabwean attacker through on goal, but Jackson Mabokgwane was quick off his line to deny the former Ajax man.

The visitors continued to boss proceedings with Kekana in the thick of things. The burly midfielder had a penalty shout in the 24th minute, but the referee waved away his claims, booking the midfield hard man for simulation.

When the Brazilians eventually found the back of the net through Cuthbert Malajila four minutes later the goal was chalked off with Percy Tau guilty of fouling Mabokgwane.

Aces first chance fell to Abia Nale in the 36th minute. Aubrey Ngoma found space down the right flank before teeing up his teammate who could only manage to scuff his effort over Denis Onyango's crossbar from close range.

Sundowns started the second-half like they did the first with Billiat, Tau and Themba Zwane causing the hosts all sorts of problems.

With the match starting to open up Sundowns started to look even more threatening and found the opener two minutes before the hour mark.

Modise, who scored against AmaZayoni in midweek, with a brilliant free-kick from the left flank. The 'Downs midfielder aware that Mabokgwane was off his line, rifled in a superb shot that beat the Bafana Bafana gloves man at his near post.

Pitso Mosimane's men doubled their lead through Themba Zwane in the 75th minute. The former Aces midfielder finishing off a sweeping move by the Tshwane outfit which left the AmaZayoni defence at sixes and sevens.

Aces looked tired as the game progressed with Onyango untroubled as Sundowns continued to push forward with Billiat and Cuthbert Malajila going close to adding the third in the final 10 minutes.

Sundowns join Vasco Da Gama, SuperSport United and Ajax Cape Town in the final four.
