Black Aces beat Celtic to move third

Mpumalanga Black Aces overpowered Bloemfontein Celtic 2-0 in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Amazyoni scored in each half in an entertaining league encounter. Phunya Sele Sele were forced to shoot from range most of the time as they struggled to unlock the solid looking Aces defence.

Musa Nyatama nearly gave the home side an early lead in the third minute, but Aces midfielder Zamuxolo Ngalo made a good defensive tackle to stop the winger.

Five minutes later, Aces' big centre forward Judas Moseamedi tried to curl the ball into the top corner and his effort sailed just over the goal-posts.

The visitors were presented with a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 26th minute. However, Moseamedi headed the ball straight into Celtic goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb's hands.

Nevertheless, Amazayoni did break the deadlock in the 32nd minute through Lebogang Manyama, who beat Cameroonian shot-stopper Tignyemb with a low shot.

Celtic winger Vuyani Ntanga had a chance to restore parity on the stroke of halftime, but the diminutive player's effort sailed over the cross-bar without troubling Aces keeper Shu-Aib Walters.

Defensive midfielder Ngalo doubled Aces' lead two minutes into the second-half after Tignyemb parried the ball into his path and the midfielder tapped home.

Celtic head coach Clinton Larsen then decided to pull out Ntanga and introduced hard-running striker Lerato Lamola in the 50th minute.

Exciting young winger Thapelo Morena came close to pulling one back for the home side on the hour-mark, but his effort went just over Aces keeper Walter's cross-bar.

At the other end, Aces substitute Vincent Kobola pushed forward in the 65th minute and played a good pass to Mbesuma, who was denied by Tignyemb from close range.

With 13 minutes left on the clock, Manyama ran onto his Aces teammate Lehlohonolo Nonyane's cross inside the Celtic box and the chipped the ball over Walters, but it went over the cross-bar.

Phunya Sele Sele were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the Amazayoni in the 84th minute. But Celtic substitute Keegan Buchanan's effort from the resultant set-piece was blocked by the wall.

The match ended 2-0 in favour of Aces on the day. Amazayoni moved to position three on the Absa Premiership standings following the victory.
