Chippa, Arrows locked in goalless draw

Golden Arrows held Chippa United to a goalless draw in an Absa Premiership clash played at Buffalo City Stadium in East London on Saturday afternoon.

The Chilli Boys remained seventh on the Absa Premiership standings following the draw, while Abafana Bes'thende also stayed ninth on the league table.

Chippa threatened first through Buyani Sali's shot from range four minutes into the league encounter, but the diminutive midfielder's effort missed the target.

The home nearly broke the deadlock twelve minutes later following a mistake by Daniel Akpeyi, but the ball deflected off Frank Mhango and it went wide of the target.

In the 21st minute, Thamsanqa Sangweni combined brilliantly with his Chippa teammate Joseph Molangoane who skewed his attempt wide of the Arrows goal-posts.

Nkosinathi Mthiyane had a chance to put Chippa into the lead from a free-kick seven minutes before half-time, but his effort went straight into Arrows keeper Maximilian Mbaeva's hands.

The Chilly Boys continued to dominate the match in the early stages of the second-half. Molangoane's attempt was parried away by Mbaeva a minute after the restart.

Arrows head coach Clinton Larsen made his first change on the hour-mark when he introduced Sandile Dlamini for Kwanele Hlongwane.

Diamond Thopola pushed forward ten minutes later and he unleashed a powerful shot which failed to trouble Namibia international Mbaeva in the Arrows goal-posts.

With ten minute left on the clock Xola Mlambo produced a powerful shot from range with his right foot and this time Mbaeva finger-tipped the ball over the crossbar.

Nevertheless, the Chippa and Arrows were unable to find the winning goal in the remaining minutes and the game ended in a goalless draw.
