SuperSport, Aces in goalless stalemate

SuperSport United were held to a goalless draw by Mpumalagna Black Aces in an Absa Premiership clash played at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Tshwane on Wednesday night.

The draw left Matsatsantsa ninth on the Absa Premiership standings, while AmaZayoni remained fifth on the league table.

SuperSport forward Dove Wome tried to catch Aces goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters off his line a minute into the game, but the shot-stopper did well to recover and gathered the ball.

At the other end, SuperSport shot-stopper Ronwen Williams denied Aces forward Sibusiso Masina from close range in the 12th minute.

The first booking of the match went to Aces’ attacking midfielder Nodada for unsporting behaviour by the youngster.

SuperSport midfielder Dean Furman delivered a good cross into the Aces box and Walters punched the ball away three minutes before half-time.

Three minute after the restart, former Bafana Bafana international Furman then made a world-class challenge to stop Aces striker Collins Mbesuma's shot at goal.

Togolese midfielder Wome found some space outside the Aces box in the 55th minute and he unleashed a powerful shot which missed the target.

Aces keeper Walters was called into action a minute after the hour-mark when he gathered former Mamelodi Sundowns star Wome’s shot with ease.

The home side were pressing for the opening goal and in the 71st minute, Fagrie Lakay pulled the trigger from range but his effort went wide of the target.

With two minutes left on the clock, Zama Rambuwane had a glorious chance to snatch a late winner for SuperSport, but his effort went straight at Walters who made a decent save.

In the end, SuperSport and Aces had to share the spoils on the night.
