United to face Pirates in Ke Yona final

SuperSport United progressed to the Nedbank Cup final after defeating National First Division side Baroka FC 2-0 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Tshwane on Saturday night.

Matsatsantsa will now take on Orlando Pirates in a highly anticipated Nedbank Cup final at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on the 28th of May 2016.

The home nearly grabbed an early goal just a minute into the game, but Jeremy Brockie's shot was well-saved by Baroka goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke.

After surviving an early scare, Baroka pushed forward in the 18th minute and Nkosinathi Ndlovu unleashed a shot which missed the target with SuperSport keeper Ronwen Williams untroubled.

Bakgaga midfielder Ayanda Jwara connected with a cross inside the Matsatsantsa box seven minutes later, however, his header went over the crossbar.

At the other end, Brockie came close to giving Matsatsantsa into the lead in the 39th minute, but the Baroka defence cleared the ball away before the New Zealander could pounce.

Two minutes before the halftime break, SuperSport winger Thuso Phala had a chance to break the deadlock when his effort from close range narrowly missed the target.

Bradley Grobler made it 1-0 to SuperSport with a good finish from close range with Brockie providing an assist just two minutes after the restart.

It was soon 2-0 to Matsatsantsa in the 53rd minute and Brockie was once again involved as he set-up Phala who scored to double his side's lead much to the delight of the home crowd.

Baroka head coach Kgokolo Thobejane responded by introducing their leading goalscorer Thabiso Kutumela for midfielder Lala Ntsoane a minute after the hour-mark.

Jacky Motshegwa decided to pull the trigger from range ten minutes later and the Baroka attacking midfielder's attempt failed to trouble Williams in SuperSport goal.

With nine minutes left on the clock, Matsatsantsa centre forward Brockie nearly put his name on the scoresheet, but his curler went inches wide of the Baroka goal.

Williams produced a magnificent save to deny Baroka forward Donald Mokondelela and ultimately, SuperSport stood firm at the back to win 2-0 on the night.
