Lentjies rescues a point for Maritzburg

Free State Stars drew 1-1 with Maritzburg United in an Absa Premiership game played at the James Motlatsi Stadium in Orkney on Saturday afternoon.

Ea Lla Koto moves up to position 13 on the league standings following the draw, while the Team of Choice also climbs up to tenth.

Pogiso Sanoka tried his luck from range for the visitors twenty minutes into the game, but his shot could not find the back of the net.

In the 27th minute the home side made an early change as Sifiso Mbele was introduced for Joseph Okumu by Stars head coach Giovanni Solinas.

Stars goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni made a good save to deny Maritzburg attacker Sheldon Van Wyk in the 41st minute and ensured that the first-half ended goalless.

The deadlock was finally nine minutes into the second-half and it was Goodman Dlamini who scored with his right foot to make it 1-0 to Stars.

On the hour-mark, Maritzburg head coach Ernst Middendorp made a change pulling out Sanoka for Devon Saal as the visitors searched for the equalising goal.

But they had to wait until the 84th minute to restore parity as the Team of Choice were awarded a penalty after Davis Nkausu handled the ball in the Stars box.

Team of Choice captain Kurt Lentjies then stepped up and beat Ea Lla Koto goalkeeper Ngobeni from the spot-kick to make it 1-1 for the visitors.

Both teams launched late attacks in search of a winning goal, but it never came and the two sides drew 1-1 on the day.
