Baroka frustrated Chiefs in Durban

Kaizer Chiefs were held to a goalless draw by Baroka FC in an Absa Premiership game played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Wednesday.

The draw took Amakhosi to position two on the league standings, while Bakgaga slipped down to tenth spot on the table.

Amakhosi began the match lively with Keagan Buchanan unleashing a shot from range which went just over the crossbar five minutes into the game.

In the 26th minute, Siphiwe Tshabalala whipped a dangerous free-kick into the box and there was a bit of confusion before the Baroka defence cleared the ball away.

The home side nearly broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when Edward Manqele's deflected shot narrowly missed the target as Chiefs pressed for a goal.

The Amakhosi striker then unleashed another shot just before halftime and this time Bakgaga goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke made a good save to ensure that the first-half ended goalless.

Chiefs keeper Itumeleng Khune was seriously tested for the first time eight minutes into the second-half when he parried away Sipho Moeti's effort.

With his side struggling to unlock the Baroka defence in the second-half, Chiefs Steve Komphela introduced Mitchell Katsvairo for Manqele in the 66th minute.

With time running out, Baroka launched a quick counter-attack down the left-hand side in the 78th minute and Marshall Munetsi forced Khune into a low save.

Amakhosi were awarded a free-kick in a promising area seven minutes later and Khune stepped up, but his attempt from the set-piece was saved by Masuluke.

Despite late attacks from both sides in the dying minutes of the game, they were unable to find the winning goal and they drew 0-0 on the night.
