Phakamani Mahlambi joins Al Ahly

Phakamani Mahlambi has taken the next step in his career after leaving Bidvest Wits to sign for Egyptian Premier League champions Al Ahly.

The 19-year-old striker flew to Cairo on Wednesday to finalise a four-year deal with the Club of the Century worth an estimated R17 million.

Mahlambi has impressed for Gavin Hunt's side since breaking into the first team in 2015, and the teenager helped the Clever Boys claim their maiden Premiership title last season.

The South Africa international was invited for a trial with Vitoria Guimaraes during the off-season, but failed to earn a move to Portugal.

Al Ahly subsequently came in with an offer and announced his capture before the Egyptian transfer deadline closed on Thursday.

A post on Twitter from the Students read: "Bidvest Wits confirms the permanent transfer of P. Mahlambi to Caf African Club of the Century, Al Ahly SC. Good luck and do us proud."
