Makgalwa magic inspires Downs comeback

Mamelodi Sundowns claimed their first win of the MultiChoice Diski season after coming from two goals down to beat Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 at the Tsakane Stadium on Sunday.

After opening the scoring through Asanda Diyani in the 12th minute as Sundowns were guilty of some poor defending, Chiefs looked to inflict a fifth straight defeat on the Champions this season.

With the Brazilians only scoring one goal in their opening four games, Amakhosi seemed confident on the ball, as their youthful side looked unfazed by the presence of experienced Premiership stars Asavela Mbekile, Sibusiso Khumalo and Cuthbert Malajila.

However, mid-way through the half Arthur Zwane's side were rocked by Tristan Moses' straight red card after some strong words directed at the match official of the afternoon.

With a man less, Amakhosi still managed to double their lead before the half-time break through midfielder and captain Given Thibedi.

In the second half, Masandawana head coach David Notoane decided to bring on last season's player of the season Keletso Makgalwa - who made all the difference starting from his first goal in the 56th minute.

Kamogela Sambo and Mjabulise Mkhize's red cards in quick succession looked likely to affect the momentum of the Brazilians but the young Amakhosi side were unable to stem the tide.

Nine minutes before time, the South Africa youth international who recently recovered from a serious injury set-up Malajila for the equaliser and in the 87th minute the diminutive forward completed the comeback to make it 3-2.

In the earlier kickoff on Sunday, SuperSport United edged past Bidvest Wits 1-0 to move up to eighth place on the table - while Maritzburg United remained unbeaten after a 2-2 draw with Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Played out at the same venue, former Santos striker Darren Smith's goal on the hour mark proved to be the only goal of the game. The defeat leaves the Students languishing in 11th place, with only one win from their opening five games.

And the draw for the Team of Choice leaves them at the summit of the table, as the only unbeaten side in the competition with three wins and two draws from five games.
