Mere backing Dikwena against Wits

Platinum Stars captain Vuyo Mere has described Dikwena’s clash with Bidvest Wits as a “six pointer”.

Dikwena are Wits are neck on neck at the bottom of the Absa Premiership table with Dikwena just a point ahead of Gavin Hunt’s side who are at the basement of the table. Mere is expecting a high octane affair at the Bidvest Stadium this coming Saturday night.

“It’s a six pointer. I think both teams need the points but I think we need to do that ourselves. We need these points. We can’t expect other teams to be doing us favours. It’s going to be a very difficult game. We know what Wits is capable of. We have to go there confident of getting a win though. Wits have quality squad and quality coach. We are also getting to do well. We are looking forward to getting out of the relegation zone,” said Mere.

Though Dikwena have been battling at the bottom half of the table since the beginning of the season, Mere is confident that they will make a move ideally before going into the Christmas break. Mere says he and his teammates have to do their part in ensuring the team sails above the relegations waters.

“We all know that we didn’t get the start we wanted as a team. We are happy that the boys have their confidence back. We are progressing at a very slow pace. We need to get ourselves out of this relegation zone before the start of the second round because it’s going to be very difficult. So far we are happy that since coach Roger De Sa took over, things are well. It’s up to us as players that we secure our jobs because we don’t want to be fighting relegation in the second round,” said the versatile player.

“I am happy with the way things are going. Roger is trying to build a team and we need to support him as players. We have to do our part. Players have their confidence back. Roger encourages players to get out of their shells. It’s only a matter of time before we get the results. We are playing well but results are not coming but it’s only a matter of time before we get results.”
