CT City edge AmaZulu to go second

Cape Town City edged out AmaZulu 1-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the Cape Town Stadium on Friday night.

The victory took the Citizens to second spot on the league standings, while Usuthu remain 12th on the table.

The game got off a to a quiet start with the first real chance arriving a few minutes before the half-hour mark.

However, the AmaZulu striker failed to beat Stephens, who was facing his former side and the hosts survived a scare.

City also threatened in the 32nd minute when Thamsanqa Mkhize played a dangerous cross into AmaZulu box and keeper Boalefa Pule did well to gather it.

Ovidy Karuru and Michael Morton combined nicely, before the latter placed his effort wide of the target.

The visitors continued to create chances, but they were wasteful. Usuthu`s second-half substitute Rhulani Manzini pounced in the City box, but he missed the target in the 70th minute.

With time running out the ball fell kindly for AmaZulu winger Sduduzo Dlamini and he rushed his shot, and his effort missed the target with 12 minutes left.

However, Ronald Putsche then snatched a late winning goal for the hosts in the 84th minute following a scuffle in the AmaZulu box and City held on to win 1-0 on the night.
