Celtic beats Dikwena

Bloemfontein Celtic beat Platinum Stars 1-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the Dr. Molemela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The victory takes Phunya Sele Sele to 10th place on the league standings, while Dikwena remain 16th on the table.

Dikwena began the match well and they should have taken an early lead through Malawi international Gerarld Phiri Jr.

Phiri Jr found himself in a one-on-one situation against Celtic goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb, who denied the Stars winger seven minutes into the game.

Charles Baloyi then tried his luck from range five minutes later, but the Stars attacker's effort flew over the crossbar without troubling Tignyemb.

Celtic then took control of the game and Kabelo Dlamini's powerful shot narrowly missed the target in the 25th minute.

The hosts pushed for the opening goal with the halftime break fast approaching and in the 44th minute, Ronald Pfumbidzai missed the target with a header.

The score was 0-0 at the interval between Celtic and Stars following an entertaining first-half.

Phunya Sele Sele dominated the opening stages of the second-half and they managed to break the deadlock through Ndumiso Mabena.

Mabena, who was in action against his former side, hit the back of the net to make it 1-0 to Celtic with Deon Hotto grabbing an assist in the 58th minute.

Stars head coach Roger De Sa reacted by pulling out Baloyi and he introduced experienced striker Bonginkosi Ntuli.

Tignyemb had to produce two fine saves within a minute to deny Sibusiso Mthethwa from close range from a corner-kick in the 85th minute

Mabena tried to double his side's lead in the closing stages of the game, but Mzimela made a good save to deny the striker, who was named Man of the Match.

Celtic managed to hold on to their slender lead in the dying minutes of the game and they emerged 1-0 winners over Stars.
