Bidvest Wits fight back to beat AmaZulu

Bidvest Wits edged out AmaZulu 3-2 in an AbsaPremiership match at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The win took the Clevers Boys to 10th place on the league table, while Usuthu slipped down to 11th spot.

The hosts began the match well and they should have taken the lead through their star striker LehlohonoloMajoro.

The former AmaZulu marksman turned and forced goalkeeper Siyabonga Mbatha into a good save nine minnutes into the game.

Majoro as looking lively for the hosts and he managed to force Mbatha into in another top save two minutes later.

The goal-minder stopped the Wits striker's curling effort as the hosts pressed Usuthu.

However, AmaZulu grew in confidence as the match progressed and they began threatening the Clever Boys.

Former Wits midfielder Michael Morton beat keeper Darren Keet against the run of play to make it 1-0 to AmaZulu in the 32nd minute.

The home side tried to pull one back before the break, but Reeve Frosler's effort was saved by Mbathafollowing a scramble in the box.

The score was 1-0 to AmaZulu at the interval following a first-half which was dominated by Wits.

Wits continued their dominance after the restart and they were awarded a penalty after Daine Klate was brought down in the box just before the hour-mark.

South Africa youth international Frosler then stepped up and he was denied by Mbatha, who produced a fine save.

However, the Usuthu keeper was beaten in the 63rd minute when Thabang Monare's cross was scored by Klate to make it 1-1 for Wits.

Gavin Hunt, the Wits coach, then introduced Eleazar Rodgers as the hosts looked to grab a late winning goal.

Rodgers made an immediate impact as he made it 2-1 to Wits when he scored from Frosler's cross in the 83rd minute.

The momentum was with Wits in the closing stages pf the game and they made it 3-1 in the 90th minute through Ben Motshwari.

However, Tapelo Nyongo pulled one back in stoppage time, but the goal proved to be a consolation goal as Wits stood firm at the back and ultimately, they won 3-2.
