Baroka, SuperSport in goalless stalemate

Baroka FC and SuperSport United played to a goalless stalemate in an Absa Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

SuperSport started brightly with the first shot on goal in the sixth minute, but Thuso Phala saw his powerful shot from the edge of the box well-saved by the keeper.

Three minutes later the home side mustered their first attempt on goal, but Talent Chawapiwa’s long-range effort went narrowly wide of the target.

The next effort on goal only came on the half hour mark when Thabo Mseki worked himself into space just inside the box, but his stinging shot flew inches over the SuperSport goal.

Five minutes later Chawapiwa was in the thick of the action again for the home side, but the Baroka attacker failed to hit the target from 20-yards out.

Neither side could break the deadlock before the break and entered the halftime tunnel locked at 0-0.

SuperSport started the second half well with Phala trying his luck from long-range, but his effort skimmed the wrong side of the post.

On the hour mark Phala was at it again when he met a pin-point cross into the box, but his header was inches over the target.

Baroka’s first real threat on goal in the second half only came in the 70th minute when Ranga Chivaviro found space 20-yards out, but his effort was brilliantly saved by the keeper.

SuperSport had the last say of the match when Teboho Mokoena beat two defenders on his way into the box, but he shot just wide of the goal with the keeper at his mercy.

The match ended 0-0.
