Mayambela rescues a point for Chippa v Polokwane

Mark Mayambela netted a stoppage-time equaliser for Chippa United in a 2-2 draw against Polokwane City at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Friday evening.

The Chilli Boys came from a goal down on two occasions to rescue a point that duly moves them out of the relegation zone and into 13th place on the log standings.

Ayanda Nkili and Rodney Ramagalela found the back of the net for Rise and Shine who cap 2018 with their fifth draw of the season. The point moves the Limpopo side up to third, four points behind Orlando Pirates.

The game got off to a fast paced start with the first notable chance in anger falling to Ramagalela in the 18th minute. The striker controlled the ball with aplomb before whistling his resulting half-volley inches wide of goal.

Andile Mbenyane should've put the visitors a goal up a minute later, but Nkili produced an unbelievable goalline clearance to deny the attacker who looked sure to score.

Chances continued to come at either end of the pitch, but finishing of said chances was proving difficult for both teams as the first-half ultimately ended with the scores deadlocked at 0-0.

The first chance of the second half produced a goal as Nkili powered home an unstoppable header from a corner-kick three minutes after the break. Daniel Akpeyi had no chance and remained rooted to his spot as the ball arrowed into the back of the net.

Chippa pulled level in the 58th minute through Rhulani Manzini who converted a pin-point cross from Mbenyane for for his second goal in as many matches.

Zitha Macheke was then unlucky to see his powerful effort canon off the crossbar and out of danger to the relief of Harold Ndlovu in the Polokwane goal.

Ramagalela, though, restored Rise and Shine's lead in the 79th minute albeit through rather fortunate circumstances. The hard-running forward's deflected shot completely wrong footing Akpeyi who watched helplessly as the ball flew into the back of the net.

The visitors were well on their way to all three points, but to their credit the hosts never stopped fighting and got their reward in added time.

Thabo Rakhale teeing up captain Mayambela who fired a rasping shot into the roof of the net to claim a point for the Eastern Cape outfit.
