Absa Premiership Woza Nazo Durban Derby fever grips Ethekwini

Soccer fans in Durban will get into a more festive cheer as the much-anticipated Absa Premiership Woza Nazo Durban Derby between AmaZulu FC and Lamontville Golden Arrows returns to town at the weekend.

The Saturday showcase presents one of the oldest city rivalries in the Absa Premiership and will take place at King Zwelithini stadium. The match presents a golden opportunity for both teams, currently positioned mid-table, to finish the year in the top half of the log standings.

Going into the derby, hosts Usuthu have their tails up following a good string of results over the past month, having won three out four games and in a rich vein of scoring form, while conceding only once during this period. Their Lamontville neighbours, Abafana Besthende, have fared decently as they were able to grind out results as well in recent times, impressively collecting points by winning and drawing against Gauteng giants Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits respectively. This derby clash will give the evergreen Siyabonga Nomvethe an opportunity to officially hang up his boots in an emphatic fashion.

There should be no shortage of motivation and incentive for both clubs to display an entertaining brand of football for the passionate Durban supporters, as for them, the winner of this popular fixture in the city, will get the coveted Durban City bragging rights until the return fixture takes place later in the season.

Off the field, local supporters will get a chance to be part of creating an exciting atmosphere fitting for a derby as Absa will paint the city red with engaging activities to call on all soccer fans to get behind the ‘Bring Your Voice’ campaign and celebrate their passion of the game, from Wednesday the 19th to Friday, 21st December.

Local fans will stand a chance to win Absa Red Zone tickets for the match at the three roadshows that will take place at The Workshop (3pm – 5pm) on Wednesday, then at Mega City Mall in Umlazi on Thursday (1pm - 4pm) and at Eyadini on Friday (3pm - 5pm). There will also be an opportunity for fans to take a photo with former players from both teams, Belux Bukasa Kasongo and Kagisho Dikgacoi, and the Absa Premiership trophy, as well as practise their penalty kicking skills through a thrilling Kick For A Million activation.

On match day, Absa will be bringing fans the ultimate match day experience through the Woza Nazo Absa Red Zone, where over 1, 250 soccer fans will get access to an exclusive area where there will be entertainment, food, refreshments and Woza Nazo merchandise ahead of the match. The Absa Red Zone will be located on the outer field at King Zwelithini stadium, and open from 12pm until 2:30pm on the 22nd of December 2018.

During this match, Absa will be looking for the sixth finalist to take part in the Kick-for-a-Million competition, which will take place during halftime. Fans can register on arrival at the stadium to be part of the Kick-For-A-Million competition.
