Wits look to cement PSL top spot

Bidvest Wits will face off with Chippa United in an Absa Premiership match at the Bidvest Stadium on Friday.

Kick-off is at 8:00 pm.

The Clever Boys extended their unbeaten run to three matches in the league when they secured a 2-1 win over Baroka FC away last weekend.

The victory took Wits to the top of the league standings having collected 27 points from 14 matches. They are only ahead of second-placed Orlando Pirates on goal-difference.

Meanwhile, Chippa extended their winless run to seven matches in the league when they drew 2-2 with Polokwane City at home last week.

As a result, the Chilli Boys are placed 14th on the league standings having accumulated 12 points from 14 matches. They are only a point above the relegation zone.

What are the teams saying

Bidvest Wits head coach Gavin Hunt

“Chippa United have a lot of good players, and it won’t be an easy game,” he said.

"We haven’t done well at home this season. We have dropped points that we shouldn’t have dropped in the last couple of matches.

“We have to change that. We want to finish the league on the high note."

Chippa United interim coach Joel Masutha

“This is a team that wants to move up the log. Normally when you are down there, there is a lot of stress," he said.

"I do feel like we need to work on playing more positively and not being afraid and taking the game to the opponent.

“But if you look at the team I have‚ I believe that on any given day they can take on anybody and win the match.”

Bidvest Wits key players

Darren Keet: The experienced goalkeeper scooped the Man of the Match award after helping the team beat Baroka last weekend. Keet will be looking to play an important role in helping his side overcome Chippa.

Lehlohonolo Majoro: The veteran forward scored his first league goal of the season during Wits' recent victory over Baroka. Majoro will be keen to find the back of the net against Chippa and help his side win at home.

Chippa United key players

Mark Mayambela: The attacking midfielder is in good form at the moment having netted against Polokwane City last week. Mayambela has the ability to inspire the Chilli Boys to victory against the Clever Boys.

Rhulani Manzini: The bulky striker scored his second goal in as many league matches when he netted against Polokwane. Manzini will be looking to continue his scoring form and help his side win in Johannesburg.
