Wits look for first home win

Bidvest Wits will chase a first home win in the Absa Premiership this season when they host Stellenbosch at Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday 28 August 2019, kick-off at 19h30.

Wits have won both away matches so far this season – including a 1-0 victory at Polokwane City on Wednesday, August 14 in their last league outing. However, the Clever Boys’ only home match so far this term ended in a 1-0 loss at the hands of Baroka FC earlier in the month.

Stellenbosch have yet to win in their debut top-flight season, though they have recorded two draws: 0-0 at Chippa United in the opening round and 0-0 at home to Maritzburg United this past Sunday, August 25. The Cape side will be aiming for a first three-point haul of the campaign.

In head-to-head terms, this will be the first top-flight meeting of Bidvest Wits and Stellenbosch. However, when the latter team was still known as Vasco Da Gama, the clubs met in two league games in the 2010/11 season: Vasco won 2-0 at home in September 2010, while the return game in Johannesburg in February the following year saw the Clever Boys rack up a 6-0 victory.

Wits’ line-up from their 1-0 win over Polokwane on August 14: Petersen, Hlatshwayo, Hotto, Nange, Mkhwanazi, Ritchie, Alexander, Doutie (Nonyane 90'+3) Macheke, Motupa (Domingo 74'), Lark (Machupu 62').

Stellenbosch’s line-up from their 0-0 draw against Maritzburg on August 25: De Jong, Robertson, Mthethwa, Gould, van Heerden, Bergman, Moroole (Isaacs 82’), Matsi, Franco (Skelem 46’), Moon (Zungu 57’), Rayners.
