Celtic fight back to beat Stellenbosch

Bloemfontein Celtic defeated Stellenbosch FC 2-1 in an Absa Premiership match at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday night.

The victory took Siwelele to the seventh spot on the league standings, while Stellies remained 15th on the log.

Stellies got off to the perfect start as they broke the deadlock just three minutes into the match through Ryan Moon.

The former Kaizer Chiefs marksman netted to make it 1-0 to Stellenbosch after being set-up by Marc Van Heerden.

The hosts continued to attack after grabbing an early goal which had unsettled the Phunya Sele Sele defence which was led by Tshepo Rikhotso.

Wssem Isaac had a chance to double the hosts' led after being set-up by Moon, but the striker could not beat Celtic goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane in the 17th minute.

Celtic then took control of the match as they searched for the equalising goal against Stellensboch.

However, Steve Barker's men contained the visitors and Stellenbosch were leading 1-0 during the halftime break.

Phunya Sele Sele applied some pressure on the Stellies defence after the restart with Latshane Phalane pulling the strings from the middle of the park.

The hard-working player was involved when Celtic restored parity in the 53rd minute as he grabbed an assist when Mzwanele Mahashe netted to make it 1-1.

Barker reacted by introducing Ashley du Preez as the hosts looked to restore their lead against Lehlohonolo Seema's men.

However, it was the visitors, who grabbed the winning goal with the home side's defence exposed with nine minutes left on the clock.

Ndumiso Mabena was the man, who beat goalkeeper Boy de Jong to seal Celtic's 2-1 victory over Stellenbosch on the night.
