Bobe goal ease Leopards problems

Black Leopards captain Mongezi Bobe led by example as he scored an 88th minute winner for his side as they defeated SuperSport United 1-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the Giyani Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

The match sparked into life in the 18th minute when Leopards’ Samuel Mabunda fouled United winger Frankln Cale.

Cale produced a left-footed shot from outside the area which narrowly missed the target.

By the half hour mark, the match was in a tranquil state as neither side took the responsibility.

In the 36th minute United winger Sameehg Doutie sent a cross from the right wing which was met by the head of lanky forward Mame Niang from the centre of penalty area but the Senegalese saw his effort saved by Leopards keeper Posnett Omony.

A minute later, Cale had a 30-yard shot on goal from long range that went wide left.

Three minutes from the break, Leopards should have taken the lead. Leopards captain Mongezi Bobe crossed the ball on the left wing for first half substitute Kingston Nkhatha, but he failed to capitalise from a great position when headed the ball over from inside the six-yard box as it cleared the crossbar.

The two sides went into halftime deadlocked at 0-0.

Eight minutes after the restart Niang missed another chance. An in swinging corner taken from the right by the thunderous left boot of Cale was headed over the crossbar from close range by Niang.

With six minutes left of regular time, Nkhatha could have put Leopards into the lead when, from the centre of the six-yard area, he missed with a header that went wide to the right.

Another opportunity presented itself for Leopards two minutes later when Bobe missed a glorious chance inside the penalty area, seeing his weak shot go wide.

But those missed chances were soon forgotten when Bobe received a cross from the left and coolly slotted home from the centre of the box with his left foot to make it 1-0 for Leopards with two minutes left.

Lidoda Duvha held on for the three valuable points as they eased their relegation troubles.
