Absa Premiership return for Pirates

Maritzburg United will be out to avoid a third straight Absa Premiership loss when they host Orlando Pirates at Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday, 27 November 2013.

Maritzburg suffered a second successive league defeat this past weekend when they most 2-1 away to provincial rivals Golden Arrows.

The KwaZulu-Natal team has won just two of their five home matches so far this season.

Their next three league opponents are Ajax Cape Town (away), Bidvest Wits (home) and Mamelodi Sundowns (away).

The Team of Choice is placed eight on the Absa Premiership log with 12 points from 11 matches.

Pirates have not been in league action since late October when they drew 1-1 away to Kaizer Chiefs.

The Soweto side has fulfilled just three league fixtures so far due to postponements caused by their run to the CAF Champions League final.

Their next three league opponents are Bloemfontein Celtic (home), Platinum Stars (away) and Golden Arrows (home).

The Buccaneers are placed 16th on the Absa Premiership log with four points from three matches.

In head-to-head stats, Maritzburg and Pirates have met in 14 league matches since 2005/06.

Bucs have twice as many wins as the KwaZulu-Natal team (eight to four), while just two matches have been drawn.

Maritzburg have won three of their seven home matches against Pirates, suffering four defeats in the process.

Last season Bucs won 2-1 in KZN, but the Team of Choice claimed their first away win (3-2) in the return match in Soweto.

Kick-off is at 19h30.
