Ea Lla Koto in danger zone after AmaZulu loss

Free State Stars slipped down to the relegation zone in the Absa Premiership when they went down 2-1 to AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night.

Ayanda Dlamini and substitute Ruzaigh Gamildien were on target for Usuthu, while Richard Henyekane scored the only goal for the Free State side.

The result helped AmaZulu move up to fourth place with 38 points from 26 matches, while Ea Lla koto are now place 15th with 21 points from 24 matches.

The visitors had the first effort on target in the 8th minute when Richard Henyekane curled his freekick towards goal, but Philani Zikalala was able to punch clear to Stars players lurking inside the box.

Six minutes later, AmaZulu lost the ball inside their own half, which allowed Moeketsi Sekola to find Henyekane on the right side of the box, but his solid strike was pushed away by Zikalala.

Usuthu then started to string some passes together and had their first good chance in the 22nd minute when Sifiso Hlanti picked out Nkosinathi Mthiyane, only for the winger to blast his effort over from the left side of the box.

The home side broke the deadlock seven minutes later when Ayanda Dlamini made a great run into the far post to head past Tshepo Motsoeneng, connecting with a cross from Hlanti.

Craig Rosslee’s side came close to doubling their lead in the 38th minute when another Hlanti cross fell for substitute Ruzaigh Gamildien inside the box, but his low shot was turned around the post by Motsoeneng.

Gamildien did eventually get his name on the scoresheet in the opening minute of the second half when he picked his spot from right side of the box to score his first goal in Usuthu colours.

The former Bloemfontein Celtic player almost grabbed his brace in the 58th minute after he was set up by Ayanda Dlamini, but his snapshot was deflected wide by Motsoeneng.

The next opportunity fell for Bongani Ndulula in the 69th minute after he was put through by a flick from Ayanda Dlamini, but he fired his low shot straight at Motsoeneng.

Stars pulled one goal back in the 80th minute when Henyekane ran past the Usuthu defence to receive a through pass from Camaldine Abraw before slotting the ball past Zikalala from the centre of the box.

Stars did try to press for the equaliser but instead it was Usuthu who almost added a third in added time when Gamildien but his lobbed effort was cleared off the line by Mbuyiselo Sambu after Motsoeneng had managed to get a touch on the ball.
