Chiefs extend lead at the top

A brace from George Lebese saw Kaizer Chiefs came from behind to steal a 2-1 win over AmaZulu in an Absa Premiership match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday night.

Chiefs had the majority of the possession in the first half, but some poor decision making in the final third resulted in them having very few chance son goal while AmaZulu, in stark contrast, had numerous attempts on goal.

AmaZulu created the first bit of excitement in the fourth minute when a left-wing cross from Sfiso Hlanti was met by Bongani Ndulula, but he saw his six-yard header superbly saved by Brilliant Khuzwayo.

Four minutes later chiefs had their first shot on goal after some swift work on the edge of the box by Mandla Masango saw him create some space before he dragged his shot wide of goal.

AmaZulu, despite not seeing a lot of the ball, looked extremely threatening in attack and were rewarded for their efforts in the 22nd minute.

Initially, a 18-yard shot from Hlanti struck the left hand post, the rebound was followed up by a Gloodman Dlamini shot from the edge of the box, but Khuzwayo produced a good stop only to see Ndulula tap home the second rebound from 14-yards out, 1-0.

Chiefs took control of the game thereafter and the closest they came to finding an equaliser came in the 40th minute when Bernard Parker dribbled his way into the box, but dragged his 14-yard shot inches wide.

The half ended 1-0 in favour of the Durban-based team.

Chiefs came out firing in the second 45 and it seemed only a matter of time before they drew level.

The goal finally came in the 60th minute when a volley from the edge of the box courtesy of Lebese found the corner of the net to make it 1-1.

Chiefs continued to press for the winner and just as they game looked to be ending all-square, a 94th minute goal handed the Amakhosi the win.

Siphiwe Tshabalala struck a 24-yard free-kick that hit the crossbar and Lebese was quickest to react to tap the ball home from a couple of yards out, 2-1.
