SuperSport put three past Amazulu

SuperSport United returned the favour to AmaZulu by beating them 3-1 on Saturday night at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in their Absa Premiership match.

This comes after the home team had beaten United 5-2 away from home earlier this season, but this time around things turned the other way around.

A goal each from Daine Klate, Kingston Nkhatha and Thuso Phala was what gave United the three points.

It was AmaZulu that made the first move of the match when Bornwell Mwape’s header went over the cross bar.

SuperSport then came back through a shot from Bradley Grobler but, goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro managed to put a stop to it.

In the 20th minute, former Maritzburg United player Michael Morton conceded a free kick for a foul on John Arwuah, which Marc Van Heerden took but there was no success out of it.

With less than 15 minutes to go before the end of the first half SuperSport received a free kick after Jeremy Brockie was brought down by Sadat Ouro-Akoriko. It was Daine Klate who took it and he gave his side a 1-0 lead.

Just a minute before the end of the first half Klate also took another set piece but this time could not find the back of the net.

In the second period it was Mwape once again who showed more desperation to find a goal and this time his shot was well saved by Ronwen Williams.

In the 56th minute Mwape also came close to finding an equalizer for Usuthu but his shot missed the target.

In the 58th minute Steve Barker brought in Sifiso Hlanti in place of Marc Van Heerden. This proved to be beneficial as he made a great assist to Sedat Ouro-Akoriko who found an equalizer for Usuthu.

But SuperSport United coach Gordon Igesund also made a crucial change bringing in Kingston Nkhatha to replace Bradley Grobler in the 75 minute. Nkhatha proved to be a super sub as three minute later he found the back of the net and gave his side a lead through Jeremy Brockie’s assist.

Two minutes after this goal Bafana Bafana player Thuso Phala also registered his name on the score sheet and took the score to 3-1.

Sadat Ouro-Akoriko tried to find a second goal for his side but this time his header went over the cross bar.

This saw SuperSport United walking away with three points and ensuring that their top eight goal becomes a reality while AmaZulu remain at the bottom of the log.
