Pirates down Back Aaces

Two second half goals by substitute Tendai Ndoro broke the hearts of his former team Black Aces, as Orlando Pirates triumphed 3-1 in their Absa Premiership clash at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.

Thabo Rakhale opened the scoring in just the 4th minute with a fantastic volley from close range following good work by Thabo Matlaba on the right flank, from where he delivered a perfect cross to find Rakhale.

But Aces got straight back into the fight when, in the 12th minute, Bryce Moon pulled a ball back from the goal line to find Collins Mbesuma who turned onto his left foot and let rip with ground shot that had the power to beat Brighton Mhlongo at his near post.

Pirates could easily have been 2-1 ahead in the 22nd minute when Mpho Makola’s dipping and curling free kick rattled the crossbar with Shuaib Walters well beaten.

More good work from goal scorer Rakhale was to follow in the 33rd minute when he did ever so well to chip a pass to Issa Sarr who was in a scoring position, only to be put off by a defender and send his shot wide of target.

Just a minute later and Pirates striker Lehlohonolo Majoro lacked the confidence to take a first time shot when he received a precision pass into a good area. He took a touch and tried to curl a shot into the corner, but he had already taken too long to execute.

Pirates carved open the Aces defence on the stroke of halftime and the ball spread out wide to Gift Motupa on the right hand side of the 18 area, but he flashed his shot across the face of goal from a good scoring position.

Makola had the first chance of the second half when Majoro found him with a square pass, but somehow Makola totally fluffed his shot with his left foot. He was later taken off and replaced by Tendai Ndoro who made an immediate impact.

Ndoro cut in from the left flank and drove in a pass towards Motupa, but he missed the ball in trying to help it towards goal and instead the ball rolled into the far post and beat Walters in goal.

Bucs went close to another goal soon after, but Motupa strayed offside after breaking the line and running onto a through ball.

Substitute Menzi Masuku ran into space and saw his effort blocked by an Aces defender as Pirates pushed for a third goal in the final five minutes of the regulation 90.

But Pirates were not done yet and Ndoro found his second on the day to bury his former team Aces. After receiving a pass and turning onto his right foot, the Zimbabwean struck a right footed shot into the far bottom corner of goal.

Ndoro could have had a hat-trick in the 90th minute when he got in front of his marker to chased down a through pass, but his left footed shot went wide of goal.
