Chiefs lose to Chippa United

Kaizer Chiefs ended the 2015-16 Absa Premiership season in fifth place following a 2-0 defeat to Chippa United at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Having watched Mamelodi Sundowns runaway with the league title they won in emphatic style last season, Chiefs were eager to end the season on a high.

But, a sixth defeat of the campaign meant the Amakhosi finish the season a whopping 25 points behind the newly crowned champions.

Victory for Chippa United secured a sixth place finish - the Chilli Boys highest finish in South Africa's top flight. Goals from Buyani Sali and Lerato Manzini leading the Eastern Cape side to their 13th win of the season.

Eager to settle early nerves, Chiefs pressed forward as they went in search of a top three finish, but it would be Chippa to open the scoring with 17 minutes on the clock.

Sali finding the back of the net for Dan Malesela's troops after he broke through on goal.

Chippa shot stopper Daniel Akpeyi had to be at his brilliant best to deny Willard Katsande from leveling matters on the cusp of halftime. Chippa just about holding on to take a 1-0 lead into the tunnel at the break.

After Eric Mathoho squandered a glorious opportunity to level matters, Manzini doubled the visitors' lead when he fired a low shot past Itumeleng Khune in the 66th minute.

It was another game of missed opportunities for the Glamour Boys with Steve Komphela's men yet again drawing a black in front of goal. The Soweto giants ending a rather forgettable season without any silverware.
