Arrows down Free State Stars

Golden Arrows picked up a second successive win in the Absa Premiership after defeating Free State Stars 1-0 in the early kick-off at Goble Park on Wednesday.

Abafana Bes’thende are up to third place on the log standings on six points – just one adrift of co-leaders Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits – thanks to their victory in the Free State.

Ea Lla Koto, meanwhile, have yet to claim a win and have now gone two matches without scoring, having been held 0-0 at home by Bloemfontein Celtic last week. They drop to 15th on the log, with only newly-promoted Baroka FC below them.

The match saw little goalmouth action, to the point that there were more yellow cards (six) than total shots on target (five), with goalkeepers Thela Ngobeni and Max Mbaeva given little to do.

It looked destined to end in a goalless stalemate, but in the second minute of injury time Arrows finally broke the deadlock when defender Lehlohonolo Nonyane scored with his left foot.

Both teams will be in league action again this coming weekend: Stars will face SuperSport United away on Saturday night, while Arrows will visit Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday afternoon.
