NFD: Sunday Match Wrap

Stellenbosch FC and Jomo Cosmos both made up ground at the top of the National First Division table on Sunday, with the pair amongst three winners, along with AmaZulu, in the five matches played.

Black Leopards 2-3 Stellenbosch FC

After leaders Thanda Royal Zulu dropped points on Saturday, the attention shifted to Stellenbosch and how they would progress at Thohoyandou Stadium.

Early indications were not good for the Cape side as they fell behind to a Mwape Musonda goal and trailed at the break. But Letsie Koapeng levelled, before Ben Musaka restored Lidoda Duvha's lead. However, Stanley Muishond made it 2-2 and Koapeng grabbed his second to snatch all the points at the death.

Stellenbosch are now just three points behind Amabhubesi.

Santos 1- 1 Royal Eagles

Eagles in third were also hoping to close the gap on the leaders and they started well by going in front at the Athlone Stadium through Sandile Kubeka.

But Renaldo Jonkers equalised to secure a point for Santos, who stayed 14th.

Jomo Cosmos 2-1 Witbank Spurs

Ezenkosi also made up ground on the leaders as they too battled to a come-from-behind win at Olen Park Stadium.

Bongani Shabalala put Spurs 1-0 up, but Thato Lingwati levelled, before Matsilelele Sono scored in the closing stages to give Jomo Sono's men all the points. They are now level on 15 points with Eagles and six behind Thanda.

AmaZulu 2-0 Mbombela United

Usuthu ended a run of four straight losses with a comfortable win over Mbombela at Princess Magogo Stadium. Zola Jingxi put them ahead just after the half-hour, before Siyabonga Nomvethe secured the points with 20 minutes to play.

University of Pretoria 2-2 Real Kings FC

A thrilling affair at Tuks Stadium ended all square after a late goal by Pogiso Mahlangu stole a point for the home side. Anthony Gordinho had given Tuks an early lead, but Motsepe Sello and Mmiseni Ndlovu struck within three minutes of each other less than five minutes later to put the KwaZulu-Natal side in front, before the late drama.
