Stressed Aces face upbeat United

Mpumalanga Black Aces will be desperate to avoid a tenth straight defeat in the Absa Premiership when they host SuperSport United at the Puma Rugby Stadium on Wednesday evening, kickoff is at 7:30pm.

Aces, after going down 1-0 away to Santos on Saturday, have extended their losing streak to nine games and will not want that run to hit double figures in midweek.

AmaZayoni are placed last on the log and have both the worst defensive record (31 goals conceded) and the worst attacking record (10 goals scored). They are six points adrift of second-from-bottom Moroka Swallows.

SuperSport have hit their best run of form this season, collecting seven points from a possible nine in their last three matches. They are up to tenth on the log and will move into the top half if they beat Aces.

Matsatsantsa claimed a narrow – but deserved – win over Tshwane/Pretoria rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in Polokwane on Saturday evening, a result which knocked the Brazilians off the top of the log.

In head-to-head stats, Aces and SuperSport have met 15 times in the league since 1990.

AmaZayoni have won seven games to Matsatsantsa’s four, though United have won all four of the teams’ league and cup meetings since Aces returned to the top flight at the start of last season.

When the teams met earlier this season in Tshwane, SuperSport claimed a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Dipsy Seololwane and Fikru Tefera.

Aces’ line-up from their 1-0 loss to Santos: Chansa; Madidilani, Rooi, McCarthy, Sithole; Mathebula, Eberle, Vilakazi, Plaatjies; Mofokeng, Maleka (Ngwenya 46’).

SuperSport’s line-up from their 1-0 win over Sundowns: Fernandez; September, Gould, Booysen, Katza; Laffor (Kekana 89’), Gabonamong, Selolwane, Langerman (Lakay 80’); Madubanya, Erasmus.
