Eymael confirmed as FS Stars coach

Free State Stars have confirmed the appointment of Luc Eymael as the club’s new head coach after reaching an agreement to part ways with Sammy Troughton.

The Belgian tactician holds the highest level of coaching qualifications in the form of a UEFA Pro License and is held in high regard within the African continent where he’s managed the likes of AS Vita, A.F.C. Leopards and Al-Merrikh.

However, it was his impression upon his first foray into South African Premiership management where his influence has been duly noted.

Last season with Polokwane City the 57-year-old coached Rise and Shine to some scintillating performances with the attacking fluidity that saw the high-flyers stake a claim for a top-eight finish – after his eventual departure.

And with the ambition, Ea Lla Koto General Manager Rantsi Mokoena has, the opportunity to bring the experienced mentor to the club was made a priority as Stars seek to emulate to upward trajectory of their domestic rivals.

“We decided to go with coach Luc, but firstly we decided to terminate the contract of Sammy Troughton,” Mokoena said. “He has signed a two-year contract with the club.

“We welcome him to Free State Stars and looking forward to working with him, because his record speaks for itself – with the experience, the passion and the work ethic that he has.

“His experience of South African football and African football was a key factor and he is well travelled and achieved a lot in Africa,” Mokoena added.

“Once again we looking forward to be working with him, and with the squad we have he has been also following the team. We hope we can have a successful season with coach Luc.”

Eymael has won four major trophies in four different African countries in the past seven years.
