Cape Town City held by SuperSport
Cape Town City and SuperSport United drew 0-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday night.
The draw sees the Citizens remain sixth on the league standings, while Matsatsantsa also remain 14th on the table.
The match got off to a slow pace, but it was the Citizens, who threatened first through their pacey winger Craig Martin eight minutes into the game.
Ebrahim Seedat played a good cross into the SuperSport box and Martin placed his first-time effort just over the crossbar.
The hosts grew in confidence as the game progressed and they came very close to breaking the deadlock in the 18th minute.
Martin hit the upright with a powerful shot with the Matsatsantsa defence exposed and Taariq Fielies fired over the crossbar from the rebound.
Matsatsantsa then pushed forward in the 25th minute and Evans Rusike unleashed a shot which was easily saved by City goalkeeper Sage Stephens.
City looked dangerous each time they launched an attack and Thabo Nodada's effort narrowly missed the target nine minutes before the halftime break.
SuperSport then contained City until the first-half came to an end and the score was 0-0 at the interval.
City coach Benni McCarthy made a change at the beginning of the second-half with Lyle Lakay replacing Nodada.
Former SuperSport winger Lakay tried to make an immediate impact, but he missed the target with a long-range shot in the 56th minute.
The visitors then took control of the game and they nearly took the lead after the hour-mark.
Aubrey Modiba watched on in disbelief as his dangerous curling effort was finger-tipped over the crossbar by Stephens.
Before Thabo Mnyamane's powerful low shot narrowly missed the target in the 68th minute as SuperSport searched for the opening goal.
SuperSport caretaker coach Kaitano Tembo then pulled out Thabo Mnyamane and he introduced Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Mogakolodi Ngele with 12 minutes left.
However, the momentum was with City in the latter stages of the game with Bradley Ralani missing the target from close range from Martin's delightful cross.
SuperSport then stood firm at the back until the match referee blew the final whistle and the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
