PSL and MultiChoice Launch Second Season of Player Transition Programme

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) and MultiChoice proudly announce the return of the highly successful PSL Player Transition Programme. Building on the achievements of the pilot initiative in 2022, this year's programme takes a bold step forward by including not only seasoned players aged between 28 and 35 but also new talents who are embarking on their soccer journey.

The PSL Player Transition Programme remains dedicated to equipping and empowering players with the knowledge and skills essential for a successful transition beyond their playing careers. Set to kick off in January 2024 until June 2024.The programme continues to be a beacon of support, preparing players for a fulfilling life after professional sports and empowering them to leave a lasting career.

Dr. Irvin Khoza, PSL Chairman, states, “As we unveil the second season of the Player Transition Programme, we affirm our unwavering commitment to the holistic development of football talent. Beyond the pitch, our dedication extends to nurturing both seasoned campaigners and new promising talent. This initiative stands as a testament to PSL’s enduring commitment, together with its good corporate citizen partner, MultiChoice.”

The Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) reprises its role as the educational partner, responsible for developing an online educational platform, tutoring, and refining the framework for participant onboarding and training. The virtual programme, skilfully managed by GIBS, adapts to the rigorous training and competition schedules of the players. It comprises four core modules—business fundamentals, information technology, financial management, and leadership—ensuring a comprehensive educational experience.

Participants will also have the opportunity to choose two electives from an array of options, including Coach Education, Project Management, Facility Management, Business Innovation, Media Officers, Social Entrepreneurship, Merchandise Management, and Event Management.

The player transition programme deepens MultiChoice’s commitment to local football through our partnership with the PSL. It is also in keeping with the company’s motto of enriching lives, as through this partnership, we are empowering players in a manner that will see them continue being successful well after their playing careers come to an end.

As we embark on this second season of the Player Transition Programme, we eagerly anticipate the positive impact it will have on the lives of both seasoned players and those new to the game. The collaboration between the PSL and MultiChoice remains a testament to the enduring commitment to the enrichment and empowerment of football players in our community.
