Chippa, SuperSport share spoils in entertaining stalemate
Chippa United shared the spoils with SuperSport United after the two teams drew 0-0 in a Betway Premiership match played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Tuesday night.
The draw left the Chilli Boys placed fifth in the league standings and they are now winless in two matches. Coach Kwanele Kopo's side will play host to newly-crowned Carling Knockout champions Magesi FC on Saturday.
Matsatsantsa, on the other hand, who are also winless in two matches, are placed eighth in the standings. Coach Gavin Hunt's side will take on an unpredictable Marumo Gallants side at home on Friday.
Matsatsantsa were the better side in the opening exchanges with Tashreeq Morris forcing goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali into making a save in the 16th minute and the Chilli Boys captain also denied Lyle Lakay eight minutes before the half-hour mark.
Nwabali's counterpart Thakasani Mbanjwa was called into action on the hour-mark and he denied Seun Ndlovu. The last chance of the first-half saw Thulani Hlatswayo forcing Nwabali into making a save in the 40th minute and the score was 0-0 at halftime.
Both teams continued to create chances after the restart as Lakay's attempt was saved by Nwabali in the 47th minute. On the other hand, Mbanjwa denied Malebogo Modise in the 53rd minute and Xolani Sithole four minutes before the hour-mark.
Bradley Grobler nearly marked his return from a long-term injury with a goal in the 68th minute when he was denied by the well-positioned Nwabali. The two teams launched attacks as they searched for a late winning goal, but it never came and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
