Durban City dominate Orbit College in Rustenburg
Durban City returned to winning ways in the Betway Premiership this week following a professional 3-0 victory over Orbit College at the Olympia Park Stadium on Wednesday night.
Following defeat to Orlando Pirates last time out, Durban City were led to victory by goals from Thabo Nodada, Samkelo Maseko and Hashim Domingo on away soil.
Durban City started the game on the front foot, as seen with Saziso Magawana's effort from outside the box in the 10th minute. With Orbit sitting deep, the home side battled to progress the ball up field early on.
Magawana constantly threw himself in the mix of Durban City’s attacks and came close to breaking the deadlock in the 18th minute after letting off a missed attempt inside the area.
The visiting side held the bulk of the ball possession count leading up to the halftime whistle but often fell short at the final hurdle.
Durban City’s pressure paid off moments before the break after Bokang Mokwena drew a foul inside the area as the referee pointed to the spot. With Nodada stepping up to the mark, the midfielder did well to convert his effort with a right-footed shot.
The visitors then doubled their advantage 10 minutes into the new half through Maseko, who capped off a defence splitting pass by Magawana toward the middle of the goal.
Orbit battled to create notable chances with the hour-mark approaching, while Durban City continued to boss possession. Mbulelo Wagaba’s headed attempt in the 65th minute was saved by Darren Keet in goal, which was a rare chance for Orbit in the second-half.
Durban City then rounded off the scoreline with a third goal in stoppage time by second-half substitute Domingo, whose shot from outside the area whistled into the bottom left-corner following a corner situation.
