The first round of matches in the 2017/18 National First Division season wrapped up on Monday with Stellenbosch FC defeating Ubuntu Cape Town at the Athlone Stadium.

Goals from Malesela Monene and Terdius Uiseb took Stellies to the top of the log alongside Witbank Spurs, who won 2-1 at home to Super Eagles on Saturday at the Puma Stadium.

The other winners on the weekend were Highlands Park (1-0 at home to Jomo Cosmos), Black Leopards (1-0 away to Mbombela United) and Cape Town All Stars (1-0 away to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhadila).

Richards Bay and Real Kings played to a 1-1 draw, as did Uthongathi FC and Royal Eagles, as well as University of Pretoria and Mthatha Bucks.

The second round of NFD matches will be played this coming weekend, August 25-27.
