AmaZulu FC head coach Cavin Johnson has reflected on his side’s unfortunate defeat to Chippa United on Tuesday.

United secured a 2-0 victory over Usuthu in an Absa Premiership match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

Johnson felt that his charges were not good enough on day against the Chilli Boys, who recorded their first victory of the season.

“I thought we could’ve done better,” Johnson said.

“I thought in the first half we conceded a cheap goal and again in the second half but we didn’t play, against a good team.

“They were able to hold the ball and our attack was simple. It was about pressing them as much as we can, but I think we gave them a little bit too much space on the ball,” the 58-year-old continued.

AmaZulu goalkeeper Boalefa Pule, who kept a clean sheet during Usuthu’s 1-0 league win over Free State Stars on Saturday, produced good saves against United.

“And that is where they looked good. But if you look at the first half they didn’t have any shot at goal,” Johnson added.

“There was one late in the second half where they could’ve scored the second goal. but Pule is part of the team.

“He made good saves and then second half also again they never had clear, clear-cut chances that we can say they really should’ve scored goals.”

AmaZulu’s next league game is against Maritzburg United in the KwaZulu-Natal Derby at the King Zwelithini Stadium on 12 September 2017.
