Usuthu edge out Cape Town City
AmaZulu FC beat Cape Town City 1-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The win takes Usuthu to seventh place on the league standings, while the Citizens finish the season on fifth place.
The Citizens began the match well as they searched for the an early goal which have unsettled the Usuthu defence.
Bradley Ralani was looking lively for visitors - causing havoc for the AmaZulu defence which was led by Mbongeni Gumede.
However, the 30-year-old was very wasteful as he missed two good chances with the Usuthu defence exposed.
City continued to dominate match and they had another chance to break the deadlock through Matthew Rusike.
But the Zimbabwe international's shot lacked power in the 35th minute as AmaZulu survived another scare.
The score was 0-0 at the interval with AmaZulu having contained City.
AmaZulu head coach Cavin Johnson made a change at the interval as he introduced Jabulani Ncobeni.
The hosts were hoping to gain control of the match and push for the opening goal.
Ncobeni made an impact after being introduced as he grabbed an assist with Usuthu taking the lead in the 63rd minute.
The midfielder's free-kick was turned home by Gumede to make it 1-0 to AmaZulu with City left to rue their missed chances.
The visitors introduced Ghanaian attacker Nana Akosah-Bempah as they looked to snatch a late equalising goal.
However, AmaZulu were able to hold on to their lead in the closing stages of the game, and ultimately, they won 1-0 on the day.
