Cape Town City bring Leopards down to earth

Cape Town City returned to winning ways in the 2020-21 DStv Premiership season with a 2-0 victory over Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium on Wednesday.

Surprise Ralani scored in both halves to lead the Citizens up to fifth on the league standings and seven points behind joint-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and Swallows FC. Lidoda Duvha remain in 14th spot as a result of the defeat, which has left three teams level on nine points at the foot of the Premiership standings.

City opened the scoring in the 31st minute through Bradley Ralani who latched onto a pass from Fagrie Lakay to give the visitors a narrow lead at the interval.

Leopards pushed forward after the break in search of the equaliser but found it increasingly difficult to break down a determined City defence.

Ralani completed his brace in the 84th minute to double City's lead. Mpho Makola played him through on goal and the wing-wizard made no mistake, rounding King Ndlovu before passing the ball into the back of an empty net as Jan Olde Riekerink became the first City manager to win in Thohoyandou.

City return to action at home to Golden Arrows on Sunday while Leopards will host a rejuvenated Chippa United on Saturday.
