SuperSport United exacted revenge on Golden Arrows for their cup defeat earlier this month by beating their opponents 3-1 in a 2021/22 DStv Premiership match at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday.

Goals from Bafana Bafana duo Teboho Mokoena and Sipho Mbule, and second-half substitute Thamsanqa Gabuza steered Matsatsantsa to all three points and top of the league standings ahead of today's remaining fixtures.

Siphamandla Sabelo scored a late consolation goal for Abafana Bes’thende from the penalty spot.

SuperSport dominated the early exchanges and were rewarded just short of the half-hour mark. Iqraam Rayners weaved his way past Nkosinathi Sibisi down the right flank before teeing up Mokoena who finished past Sifiso Mlungwana with aplomb.

Arrows pushed for the equalising goal before the halftime interval, but Matsatsantsa's defence stood firm.

Having successfully weathered the proverbial storm before the break, SuperSport doubled their lead with another wonderfully worked goal. Bradley Grobler dropped deep on the left flank before teeing up Mbule who headed home from inside the penalty area in the 56th minute.

SuperSport put the game to bed through Gabuza in the 82nd minute. The towering forward outmuscled Matome Mathiane before slipping the ball between the onrushing Mlungwana's legs.

Arrows did find the back of the net in stoppage-time although it did prove a mere consolation. The visitors were awarded a penalty after Siyabonga Nhlapo had fouled Pule Mmodi. Sabelo stepped up to the spot and cooly dispatched the ball into the middle of the net for his second goal in as many matches this season.
