Chiefs held to goalless draw by Galaxy

Kaizer Chiefs dropped points when they drew 0-0 with a stubborn TS Galaxy side in a DStv Premiership match at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.

The draw saw Amakhosi miss an opportunity to go second on the league standings as they remained third. On the other hand, the Rockets climbed out of the relegation zone as they are now placed in 14th spot.

Having come off the bench to score the third goal in Chiefs' 3-1 win over Chippa United on Saturday, Keagan Dolly looked determined to find the back of the net once again. The experienced attacker fired the game's first shot on target and he was denied by goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi at the near-post.

Dolly was then sent through on goal after a mistake by Pogiso Sanoka, but the Chiefs star was let down by his poor first touch and Buthelezi came out to snatch the ball away. The Rockets looked dangerous when they launched attacks through Augustine Chidi Kwem and Orebotse Mongae.

Kwem was afforded space and time to unleash a shot that went inches wide of the target, before pulling the trigger again, but his goal-bound shot was blocked inside the hosts' box. Chiefs keeper Brandon Petersen was then called into action and made a fascinating one-handed save to deny Mongae.

The score was 0-0 during the half-time break following a first-half that saw Chiefs start well, but Galaxy grew into the match and they exerted pressure on the hosts' defence without scoring.

Amakhosi started the second-half brightly with Siyabonga Ngezana connecting with Dolly's corner-kick, but the ball went just over the crossbar. Dolly then forced Buthelezi into a save at the near post as the hosts pushed for the opening goal.

With his side creating few chances, Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter decided to make changes just after the hour mark as he introduced attacking midfielders Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Sabelo Radebe, who presented to impress and cement their spots in the starting line-up.

Both players looked to make an impact with Ngcobo's curling attempt being saved by Buthelezi, who also gathered Radebe's low cross from the left. Buthelezi was finally beaten in stoppage time, but Ngcobo's well-taken shot hit the upright and the game ended in a 0-0 stalemate on the night.
