Invitation to apply to provide the services of league Prosecutor of the National Soccer League

The National Soccer League seeks applications from persons with appropriate skills and experience to fulfil the responsibilities of a League Prosecutor as an independent contractor.

The successful candidate will be expected to take responsibility for all aspects of the disciplinary process in professional football, including proactively contributing to expedition and effectiveness.

The League Prosecutor will carry out his or her responsibilities independently, with the utmost integrity, and in accordance with the requirements of the NSL Handbook and League prescripts such as the League Compliance Manual.

The League Prosecutor’s responsibilities will include: –
- Improving the understanding of participants in professional football regarding misconduct rules and disciplinary processes.
- Ensuring adequate professional support and training in relation to disciplinary matters and processes to relevant departments of the League.
- Investigating allegations of misconduct and conducting prosecutions where these are necessary.

- The duty to act at all times with integrity and competence so as to be able to: –
- consider information provided to the League by match officials and third parties without fear or favour while respecting confidentiality;
-o ensure that allegations of misconduct are effectively investigated, and decisions taken to prosecute, or not to prosecute, in a rules-based fashion;
- prosecute cases of alleged misconduct before the League Disciplinary Committee and appeal or other tribunals;
- deal appropriately with the media regarding misconduct proceedings and matters where required.

An applicant must meet the following minimum requirements: –
- A qualified attorney or advocate with at least 4 years’ post-qualification experience.
- Experience of appearing before courts and other tribunals.
- Effective communication and people skills.
- Computer literate in MS Office Suite packages.

The following competencies and skills are highly advantageous: –
- Excellent presentation skills concerning disciplinary matters, and the ability and willingness to develop a digest of case summaries to guide participants in professional football.
- An exceptional understanding of relevant South African law and sporting rules, and willingness to develop expertise in the areas of safety and security and anti-doping.
