Moon brace earns Arrows win at Maritzburg

Lamontville Golden Arrows snapped their four-match winless run in the DStv Premiership when they defeated Maritzburg United 2-0 at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday night.

The win elevated Abafana Bes'thende to seventh spot on the league standings and they are scheduled to face Kaizer Chiefs on December 31 after the World Cup break. On the other hand, the Team of Choice remained 14th on the log and they will face TS Galaxy on December 30.

Abafana Bes'thende pushed for an early goal with Ryan Moon being the focal point of their attack with the Team of Choice struggling to contain the former Kaizer Chiefs striker.

The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute as Moon headed home a brilliant cross from eventual Man of the Match Siyavuya Ndlovu's cross to hand Arrows a 1-0 lead with the Maritzburg defence exposed.

Arrows doubled their lead in first half stoppage time when Moon netted after the Team of Choice had failed to clear away a corner-kick and the score was 2-0 to the visitors during the halftime break.

Maritzburg pushed for their first goal of the match with Rowan Human unleashing a shot which missed the target from inside the box and coach John Maduka introduced attackers Leletu Skelem and Siboniso Conco.

The momentum was with the Team of Choice in the latter stages of the game and goalkeeper Sifiso Mlungwana was a busy man as he made a fine save to deny Travis Graham from close range in the 86th minute and ultimately, the game ended in a 2-0 win in favour of Arrows.
