Sekhukhune look to snap losing streak against Sundowns

Sekhukhune United are chasing their first ever victory against Mamelodi Sundowns as they face in a Nedbank Cup quarterfinal match-up at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off is at 8pm CAT.
CURRENT FORM
Mamelodi Sundowns’ last game saw them draw for the first time this season on Wednesday night, as Golden Arrows scored first before their lead was cancelled out by Lucas Ribeiro Costa’s penalty.
In the seven meetings between Sundowns and Sekhukhune, Masandawana have won six and one has been drawn. They have put eight goals past Sekhukhune in two league games this season, dominating both encounters.
Sekhukhune United are Sundowns’ first top flight opponents in this year’s Nedbank Cup. The Brazilians are chasing their seventh Nedbank Cup title, last laying hands on the trophy in 2022.
Masandawana will look to triumph over Sekhukhune for the third time this season in the first ever cup meeting between the two teams.
Babina Noko are currently fourth in the Betway Premiership following their 2-1 loss to Richards Bay on Wednesday evening. They are level on points with third place Stellenbosch FC but fall behind on goal difference, having conceded 23 times.
They were last to advance to the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals due to delays caused by Royal AM’s situation. Two first half goals proved enough to advance past Milford FC in their round of 16 clash last weekend.
Sekhukhune are aiming for their second trip to the Nedbank Cup final in three years and to avenge their maiden appearance in which they lost out on silverware to Orlando Pirates.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Lucas Ribeiro Costa was named February’s Player of the Month in the Betway Premiership, and for good reason. He has scored in each of his last three appearances for Sundowns, with his tally now standing at 13 goals for the season. Ribeiro has yet to appear in the 2024/25 Nedbank Cup, but will rise to the occasion should manager Miguel Cardoso call upon him.
Sekhukhune midfielder Keletso Makgalwa has proven his pedigree this season and could be the difference-maker for his side on Saturday. He has registered eight assists and four goals in the Betway Premiership so far this season and will look to boost Babina Noko past his former club.
