Durban City look to prove their Premiership pedigree

Durban City will look to cause another upset as they host Marumo Gallants in their Nedbank Cup quarterfinal fixture at the Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday.
Kick-off is at 3pm CAT.
CURRENT FORM
The second-tier side have faced competition from the ABC Motsepe League, Motsepe Foundation Championship (NFD) and Betway Premiership on their way to the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals, and currently sit on top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship table.
Durban City are the only remaining championship side in the competition after defeating TS Galaxy in extra time in the previous round, courtesy of a Senzo Ndlovu winner.
They now turn their attention to the second Betway Premiership side standing between them and fairytale success.
Under new head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, Marumo Gallants are aiming to turn their season around. In his first two games in charge, Ouaddou’s side defeated Orlando Pirates before falling to Stellenbosch FC and currently sit 14th in the Betway Premiership.
However, Bahlabane Ba Ntwa have held strong in the Nedbank Cup and are yet to concede through two rounds of the competition.
Gallants will aim to advance to the final for a second time. Their one and only appearance came in 2022, where they missed out on silverware as Mamelodi Sundowns snatched victory in extra time of the final.
This first ever competitive meeting between these two sides provides a potential glimpse at a new Betway Premiership match-up, provided Gallants retain their top flight status and Durban City continue on the path to promotion.
WHAT WAS SAID
Marumo Gallants defender Siyabonga Nhlapo:
“[Durban City] will pose a very serious challenge to us. I mean, they just defeated Galaxy, who just defeated Sundowns. So it goes to show the kind of opposition that we're facing. I mean, these are guys not to mess with.”
“But when it comes to cup games, we're going to push. We want to see ourselves in the final. And that's the mandate. That's why we're in the cup games and that's why we're in the last eight.”
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Bahlabane Ba Ntwa’s Gabadinho Mhango could cause trouble for Durban City’s defenders. The striker has bagged four league goals and last scored this past weekend against Pirates. He will be eager to register his first cup goal of the season.
Ruzaigh Gamildien brings vital experience to Durban City. The former Bafana Bafana forward has netted four times this season and will be looking to add to his tally on Sunday.
HEAD TO HEAD
This will be the first meeting between the two sides.
