Gallants & Magesi settle for frustrating stalemate
Marumo Gallants and Magesi FC settled for a point in their latest Betway Premiership assignment this weekend, with the game ending in a 1-1 draw at the Dr. Molemela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
While Gallants dominated for large parts of the encounter, Jaisen Clifford’s 42nd minute strike cancelled out Kgomotso Mosadi’s 27th minute free-kick in what was a tense battle in Mangaung.
The first-half began with Marumo Gallants playing on the front foot, with Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo registering the first attempt on goal in the third minute. While Magesi had chances of their own, it was Gallants who led on the chances created count during the first quarter of the match.
However, it was Magesi who took the lead moments before the half-hour mark, after Kgomotso Mosadi added his name to the scoresheet via a direct free-kick just outside the area.
Then, while Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo was replaced in the 35th minute owing to injury, Jaisen Clifford entered the fold and immediately made his presence known. Gallants then drew level in the 42nd minute with Clifford popping up at the right time to guide home a right-footed shot from the middle of the box.
Gallants continued to be the more progressive side after the break as seen with scoring chances created by Bheki Mabuza and Ibrahim Bance. Magesi battled to make their way up the pitch and played under the cosh all the way to the hour-mark.
The home side continued to see more of the ball with the 70th minute mark approaching while Magesi looked flat in attacking areas of the pitch.
Magesi showcased a glimmer of hope through chances by Edmore Chirambadare and Kgomotso Mosadi, however, Gallants sat tight in keeping their opponents at bay at the 75th minute mark.
With the 90th minute mark on its way, Magesi cranked up their attacking intent and subsequently put Gallants under immense pressure late on.
Nevertheless, neither side were able to make the most of their opportunities during the final lap as the game ended in a 1-1 stalemate in Bloemfontein
